Preston are one of several Championship clubs interested in defender Ryan Tafazolli, it has been reported.

The 27-year-old is set to leave League One side Peterborough United on a free transfer in the summer, after making 131 appearances in all competitions during a three-year spell with Posh, with the defender already reported to be set for a move up to the second tier.

According to Football Inisder reporter Pete O'Rourke, Preston, along with Swansea; Hull and League One champions Luton, are all interested in a move for Tafazolli.

Like Tafazolli's Peterborough in League One, Preston were one of several sides who were ultimately unsuccessful in the push for a Championship play-off place this season, although they will be keen to put that right next season.

So would Tafazolli be a good signing for Preston?

We asked some of our Football League World writers for their opinions...

Gary Hutchinson

“Not for me, no.

“He’s got a bit about him, but there’s better defenders in League One.

“The fact he’s free makes it a better prospect for Preston, but I think it would purely see them acquire a backup player nothing more.

"Posh fans don’t seem to be upset that he’s left them and that’s enough for me.”

Toby Wilding

"Preston do look a bit short of defensive numbers currently, so this may not be a bad move.

"You feel Tafazolli would be a capable alternative for the Lancashire side, if not a regular starter.

"This could be a promising start to the summer transfer window for Preston, but they would need to bring more in for it to be viewed as a really successful one."

Jacob Potter

"I'm not sure he'd be an upgrade on what they already have.

"Tafazolli has been impressive for Peterborough this season, but I'm really not convinced that he'd be good enough to play regularly for Preston.

"There are better options out there for the Lilywhites in my opinion."
