Leeds United have confirmed the departure of 27-year-old Italian defender Giuseppe Bellusci, after his contract was terminated by mutual consent.

The defender's fruitless search for a new club in June meant that he returned to Elland Road for pre-season, making two friendly appearances.

However, after he was booed off the pitch in the second of those matches, against Guiseley, and embroiled in an altercation with his own fans, his days at the Yorkshire outfit have come to an end.

The Italian defender spent last season on loan at Empoli, making 31 appearances while Leeds made their most serious promotion push in a number of years, under Garry Monk.

Therefore, he is unlikely to be missed greatly at Elland Road, which is reflected in the reaction of the Leeds fans to his departure.

It is fair to say that the Italian was not the most popular figure at the club, after refusing to play against Charlton Athletic in April 2015, not to mention a hot streak that saw him shown 25 yellow cards and 2 red cards in just 57 league appearances for Leeds.
