Derby County pushed Premier League Chelsea all the way in Wednesday night’s League Cup fourth-round tie, despite being eliminated after a narrow 3-2 defeat.

In what was a pulsating match at Stamford Bridge, Frank Lampard’s men twice came back from two own goals to level the game before a second-half Cesc Fabregas goal was the difference.

After Fikayo Tomori's own goal gave the hosts the lead within five minutes, it looked like an uphill task, but four minutes later, parity was restored.

Jack Marriott has been in sensational form as of late and has scored three goals in his last three Championship starts for the Rams.

And having already scored at Old Trafford against Manchester United in the previous round, he was at it again last night, arrowing in a low effort into the far post on nine minutes.

He led the line expertly and played the full 90 minutes and put on a virtuoso performance and shined for the visitors in what was an agonising defeat after being in the match for long periods.

The Rams’ fans were understandably waxing lyrical about their main man after last night’s impressive display.

With that said, here’s how the Derby County supporters reacted on Twitter to the individual performance of Marriott in their slim league cup exit to Chelsea on Wednesday evening.
