There is no truth to the rumours that Sam Allardyce is the favourite to become the next West Brom manager, according to the journalist Matt Wilson.

Allardyce had emerged as the favourite with the bookies to succeed Darren Moore at the Hawthorns, who was sacked last month with the Baggies fourth in the Championship table.

However, Wilson, a reliable journalist for the Express and Star, tweeted this message, confirming that there is nothing in the rumours.

Allardyce has been out of work since his sacking by Everton last season and has previously managed a number of clubs including Bolton, Newcastle, Blackburn, West Ham, Sunderland, Crystal Palace and England.

James Shan has won his three matches in caretaker charge of West Brom and looks set to remain in charge of the club until the end of the season.

The Daily Mail are reporting that current Preston North End manager Alex Neil is the club's preferred candidate to succeed Moore on a permanent basis, with former Watford and Fulham boss Slavisa Jokanovic also an option.

However, it appears that one man who will not become the club's next manager is Allardyce and it is fair to say that the news caused quite a reaction with the club's fans on social media.
