Preparations for the 2019/20 campaign are well and truly underway, with plenty of sides beginning to rebuild their squads ahead what is shaping up to be another enthralling EFL campaign.

This is certainly the case for Nottingham Forest, as manager Martin O'Neill looks to get his feet properly under the table at the City Ground this summer, and shift out the deadwood to make way for fresh, new talent.

The Reds have already let go of forward Hillal Soudani to Olympiacos, despite making just eight appearances in all competitions last season.

Another striker now looks likely to move to Greece this summer, with Sportime crediting Atromitos with an interest in Apostolos Vellios.

Here, FLW writer George Harbey discusses this potential departure in today's six-pointer...

Where did it all start for Vellios at Forest?

"After a difficult spell with Everton earlier on in his career, Vellios signed for Forest when they were managed by Phillipe Montanier in 2016.

"The 27-year-old arrived from Iraklis Salonika for a reported fee of £1million, having scored 11 goals in 27 games for the Greek side.

"He had previously played in Denmark and Belgium with Vestsjaelland and Lierse respectively."

How has the move worked out since?

"To put it frankly, it's been very, very disappointing for him.

"In his first season at the City Ground, he scored just six goals in 31 games for Forest, and scored just twice in 14 appearances the following season, under Mark Warburton and Aitor Karanka.

"Last season, he was sent out on loan to Belgian side Waasland-Beveren, finding the net four times in 17 appearances."

Can you see him moving this summer, then?

"It seems almost inevitable that Vellios will depart the club this summer, as he has hardly proven to O'Neill that he can force his way into his first-team plans.

"He hasn't endured the greatest of times over in England, and a move back to his native country could be the perfect place for him to reignite what looked to be a promising career at first.

"Forest fans will have probably forgotten all about him, which  probably sums up how his time at the City Ground has gone."

Are Forest making a mistake by letting him go?

"There will be some fans who think that Vellios deserves a chance to impress under O'Neill in pre-season, but he looks set to follow in the path of Soudani.

"Forest have plenty of talented attacker on the books, and it is hugely unlikely that Vellios would force himself ahead of Lewis Grabban and Daryl Murphy in the pecking order.

"With only one year left on his deal at Forest, they may as well try and recapture some money for him, rather than letting him leave potentially on a free transfer next year.

How would you sum up Vellios' time at Forest?

"It has been massively underwhelming.

"Vellios wasn't brought in to be a 20 goal a season striker, but you feel that he could have made more of an impact during his time at the City Ground.

"As alluded to before, a move back to Greece could be the best move for both parties."

With another departure potentially on the horizon, surely Forest need to sign another striker?

"I think it's the area in which they need to strengthen the most.

"Both Murphy and Grabban are approaching the latter stages of their career, and you feel that they definitely need a new, young forward for the long-term.
