Leeds United’s Victor Orta has come in for criticism during his time at Elland Road after a somewhat patchy record with transfers at the club.

Having come in to help owner Andrea Radrizzani with the footballing aspects of the club back in the summer of 2017, helping transform the club with much better recruitment has been Victor Orta’s main role at Elland Road.

The budget he has had to play with has been very much down to how well Leeds have been able to self-fund their signings with player departures. The major transfers of Chris Wood, Charlie Taylor, Ronaldo Vieira, Pontus Jansson and Jack Clarke being the most notable to fund Leeds replacing them and rebuilding their squad.

The 2017/18 season saw the Whites replace those first two names with a host of foreign imports that largely proved very unsuccessful as Leeds toiled in mid-table.

However, their recruitment policy changed massively for the better as the club managed to bring in Marcelo Bielsa as the new manager, with Orta being instrumental in negotiations. Since then, the players that the club have been able to negotiate into joining have been demonstrably of a higher standard.

This January presented Orta with a serious dilemma to ensure that Leeds replaced departures in key areas to help their push for automatic promotion. Having brought in youngsters Elia Caprile and Ian Poveda, the question still remained of whether the Whites would be able to bring in another striker and one of the required quality to keep them in the top two.

Orta answered that question emphatically by bringing in Jean-Kévin Augustin on-loan from RB Leipzig and has brought a lot more positivity from fans that there was never much to worry about in this transfer window.

There is still the agreement amongst most Leeds fans that Orta’s recruitment has been very hit and miss. The topic was raised by ‘LUFC Insider’ on Instagram about Orta’s impact so far, and prompted discussion from fans about how he is received, or at least how he should be.

Here, we take a look at how fans responded to this comment…

All.leedsunited “Couldn’t agree more!”

Jaymooney86 “Nobody will realise the impact Victor Orta has made unless they work with him day-to-day. The best in the business.”

Andrewloughran67 “Well said @lufcinsider, he was getting a lot of stick even last week but we are where we are because of his effort. Think I'd rather have him on our side than not as I think he gets what it's like to support Leeds United!”

Can you remember the first 12 results for Leeds this season?

Jacka.1204 “He’s turned it around since 17/18 and were lucky to have him.”

Emsy58 “We are probably one of the hardest bunch of supporters to please but, as we’ve proved, one of the most loyal. He just want to be back at the top flight again, where we belong.”

George_hardie37 “Knows what he's doing no matter how much criticism he gets, brought in some quality signings over the years, Kiko (Casilla) and JKA (Jean-Kévin Augustin), keep going, Victor.”

Lyndon.moorby “Hear hear! - I would also suggest that some of the players who he’s brought in that haven’t worked out are clearly more to do with the manager in charge of them rather than the scouting. Look what MB (Marcelo Bielsa) has done with a mid-table squad. Bravo Orta!”
