Middlesbrough star Britt Assombalonga is being linked by Team Talk with a surprise switch to Bristol City before tomorrow's deadline.

The former Watford man has scored nine times for Boro this season, despite being in and out of the side, but he doesn't seem to fit in at the Riverside. the pre-season controversy with Tony Pulis seems to have soured their relationship and he's now looking set for a move down the table.

It would only be a drop of two places though, Lee Johnson's Robins are just three points below Boro in seventh place. They're used to cashing in on their top talent, not poaching it from other clubs and this would see that trend reversed.

Assombalonga started his career as a trainee at Brentford, but made his name whilst at Watford out on loan. His exploits for Southend earned him a move to Peterborough, who quickly cashed in on him with a £5.5m move to Nottingham Forest.

They tripled their money when he moved to Boro, with Bristol City expected to have to get near that fee to prise him away. Is it the right decision for him to leave Boro? Our Football League experts discuss.

Lee Connor

“I think there’s little doubting he has ability in this division, but I’d not be spending what Middlesbrough originally paid for him.

“He will though get goals, and Lee Johnson’s men have put a decent spell of form together, so he might see him as the sort of player to get them over the line and seal a top six spot.”

George Harbey

"I think it would be the best decision.

"He’s never really made the impact at Boro like he did at Forest, and it’s best for them to cut their losses now.

"Bristol City could be a very good move for Assombalonga."

Jay Taylor

“He has cut a forlorn figure at times this year at the Riverside.

“It’s seemed to be a pretty rough relationship between the striker and Pulis this term so a move away could be what is best.

“A new challenge for the striker and new opportunities could revitalise a stuttering career at present.”
