Aston Villa defender James Bree will be hoping to impress whilst on loan at Ipswich Town, after admitting that he hasn't progressed since moving to Villa in 2017.

Discussing his progress at Villa Park with Ipswich’s official media, Bree said: “I haven’t kicked on since signing for Villa a couple of years ago as much as I’d wanted to.

“But for now, it’s all about Ipswich.”

Bree has only made 14 appearances for Villa since his arrival from Barnsley, failing to be given a consistent run in the side by previous manager Steve Bruce.

But does Bree have a future at Villa under Dean Smith?

We discuss.....

Gary Hutchinson

“No, I don’t think so.

“Coming out with comments like that won’t make him popular.

“I’m not sure he’s quite good enough either.

“Best for all if he moves on in the summer, for good.”

Jacob Potter

"He’s definitely got a future with Aston Villa.

"Bree has a bright future ahead of him, and I think he’s been unlucky not to have started more games for Villa.

"He’s a long-term replacement to the likes of Alan Hutton and it would be ridiculous if they were to offload him permanently in the summer."

Jay Taylor

“It’s all down to Smith, at the end of it all.

“That is the long and short of it.

“Admitting he has not progressed is fault for the player and the coaching staff.

“The current manager may afford him time to improve and learn from mistakes from the past.”
