Sheffield Wednesday have added to their defensive options for the Championship season, after confirming the signing of Hamburg defender David Bates on a season-long loan deal.

Bates, who only moved to Hamburg from Rangers last summer, made 28 appearances and scored once during his single season with the German second-tier side.

The defender is now set to spend the coming campaign at Hillsborough, as The Owls look to build on their impressive form in the second half of last season under the now-departed Steve Bruce.

Following confirmation of Bates' arrival, Wednesday have added no fewer than three players on deadline day of the summer transfer window, having previously completed the permanent signing of midfielder Massimo Luongo from QPR, and a loan deal for winger Jacob Murphy from Newcastle United.

Taking to Twitter to react to the news of Bates' signing, plenty of Sheffield Wednesday fans appeared to be immensely pleased with their latest recruit, although some were disappointed that the club missed out on former loanee Michael Hector from Chelsea.

Here, we take a look at what some of them had to say.
