Leeds United took a big step in the race for promotion to the Premier League on Tuesday night, as they came from 2-0 to beat Millwall 3-2 at Elland Road.

After Shaun Hutchinson's opener and a Jed Wallace penalty had put the visitors 2-0 up at half time, a double from Patrick Bamford, either side of Pablo Hernandez' strike, saw Leeds complete a remarkable turnaround to take all three points.

That result, coupled with West Brom's 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City, means that Marcelo Bielsa's side have now returned to the top of the Championship table, four points clear of the play-off places.

One man who was there to see the drama unfold was Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy, who clearly seemed to enjoy the spectacle he was treated to at Elland Road.

Taking to Twitter after the game, Mendy posted a picture of himself stood alongside Leeds' new signing Jean-Kevin Augustin, thanking him for the invite to the game, while also expressing his happiness at seeing Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa again, having previously played under the Argentine at Marseille between 2014 and 2015.

Here is a look at what Mendy had to say post-match.

Mendy himself could be in action on Wednesday night, as City host rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium in the second leg of their League Cup semi-final, a tie they lead 3-1 from the first leg.

The Verdict

It looks as though there is quite a partnership forming between Leeds and Manchester City.

Manager Pep Guardiola has previously expressed his admiration for Marcelo Bielsa, and it now seems as though Mendy is something of a fan of the Elland Road club as well.

Indeed, with Jack Harrison and new signing Ian Poveda both on the books of Leeds as well at the minute, the connection between the two clubs is evident on the pitch as well.

You feel therefore, as though it would be a hugely intriguing encounter between these two sides next season, should Leeds secure their long-awaited return to the Premier League in the current campaign.
