Former Sheffield Wednesday man Benito Carbone has revealed his love for English football as he seeks a management opportunity in the country - and he would like to start with the Owls.

Even though the way the forward left Hillsborough caused controversy, he is still fondly remembered due to his performances after signing from Inter Milan.

And, having retired as a player a decade ago, Carbone has spent much of the past ten years as a manager, working in the lower leagues in Italian football but he is keen on returning to Yorkshire one day.

Speaking to Planet Football, the 49-year-old outlined his passion for the game in this country and shared his ambitions for the future in the dugout.

"I love England, I love English football, I love the game, the atmosphere, the fans. I’d like to come back, it would be a dream come true. I dream, one day, to come back to England as a coach – and why not start at Sheffield?

"If I never had to leave England, if I’d remained there for almost 20 years, maybe now I would have been Sheffield coach (laughs)."

The verdict

Carbone had a connection with the Wednesday fans when he was a player and it's clear that he still has fond memories from his time at the club.

As for his managerial ambitions, it's nice to see that he wants to come back to the club but obviously he needs to prove himself first.

He will need to show he can do well elsewhere before landing a role with the Owls so it's not something that is even remotely close but it would be interesting to see what happens if Carbone starts to make a name for himself as a coach.
