Having conceded top-spot in the Championship to Brighton last week, Newcastle United have learned the hard way that the face for the title is still wide open and the Magpies have work to do in the second-half of the campaign.
Fortunately, Rafael Benitez’ side have a six point advantage over third-placed Reading and are still one of the favourites to return to the Premier League.
However, the Spaniard will certainly be looking to improve his ranks to ensure their goal is achieved.
For a side flying high, Newcastle will have to balance their January activity between getting players that can help the cause immediately and securing players who can help the Tyneside outfit remain competitive upon their return to the top-flight.
With Benitez’ experience of the market, this should be no problem for Newcastle and the club should definitely look to secure a quick deal for these two targets next week.
