Bristol City striker Benik Afobe has shared an encouraging update as he continues his recovery from an anterior cruciate ligament injury which has kept him out of action since September.

Afobe has bee showing promising signs after netting three goals in five games following the completion of his loan move from Stoke, but the forward was then initially ruled out for the rest of the season after suffering the serious injury in training.

However, Bristol Live then reported that Afobe’s return date had been revised as March with the striker set to give City a boost during their final run-in, and Afobe has now provided a fresh update regarding the progress his recovery.

The 26-year-old took to Instagram to share an update regarding his “first run” during his recovery, with the Stoke loanee seemingly on course to feature again for the Robins before the end of the campaign.

Furthermore, he fact Afobe appears to be ahead of the initial schedule in his recovery from injury did not stop the Robins from bolstering their attack with the signing of Nahki Wells in January, with this meaning Lee Johnson could have excellent attacking options in the near future.

The Verdict

This news will come as a major boost for Bristol City given how impressive Afobe looked during the opening weeks of the season, and it will be really interesting to see him play alongside new signing Wells in attack.

Furthermore, Famara Diedhiou was on the scoresheet on Saturday as he netted the winning goal against QPR, with this further emphasising the fact that City could have some fantastic forward options during the business end of the season.

Afobe will now be itching to get back on the pitch to help his side’s promotion bid following their encouraging results of late, and this update suggests City fans can look forward to his return sooner rather than later.
