Bristol City striker Benik Afobe is continuing on his road to recovery as he aims to overcome an anterior cruciate ligament injury which has kept him out of action since September.

Afobe made a fine start to life at the Robins following the completion of loan switch from Stoke as he netted three goals in his first five matches, but he was then initially ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining the serious injury problem.

However, it then emerged that Afobe was on track for an early recovery from his injury after receiving some positive news from his surgeon, with the former Arsenal striker now on course to make his City return sometime during March.

The 26-year-old has now taken to Instagram to share a fresh update as he continues to battle for fitness, with the City frontman posting a video of him kicking a football accompanied by the caption "Missed this".

The Robins sealed the permanent signing of Nahki Wells from Burnley last week in order to help solve their striker conundrum, but it appears as though Lee Johnson may soon have both Wells and Afobe available for selection.

The Verdict

There were high expectations when Afobe arrived at Ashton Gate over the summer which would have made it particularly damaging when he suffered his injury blow, but it now looks like he could well play his part in the Robins' final run-in.

Afobe now appears to be firmly on the road to recovery as he has now filmed himself kicking a ball again, with this suggesting he is making good progress as he aims to play a role in City's promotion bid this campaign.

It seems unlikely the Robins will be depending on Afobe between now and the end of the season given the sheer extent of his injury, but he could be an excellent player to make some key cameo appearances during the closing months of the season.
