Bristol City striker Benik Afobe has provided an optimistic message regarding his injury recovery as he edges closer to his comeback after missing the majority of the campaign.

Afobe started the season in fine goalscoring form by netting three goals in his first four matches for the Robins after completing his loan switch from Stoke, but he then sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury which has kept him out since September.

Robins boss Lee Johnson has struggled to replace the 26-year-old's presence in the side, with this leading to him entering the market for another striker this January, but it now seems that Afobe is continuing to edge closer to his long-awaited return.

The Congo international has taken to Instagram to share an image which shows he is back at Ashton Gate, with this being accompanied by an upbeat message claiming that he will be available to feature for the Robins in the near future.

The Robins are currently in need of a boost following a disappointing run of just three wins in their last 10 matches, and the fact Afobe looks set to defy the odds by featuring again this season means he could be the man to provide a much-needed lift.

The Verdict

Afobe was initially ruled out for the rest of the season when he suffered his ligament injury back in September, so the fact he is now aiming to play a part in the Robins' final run-in comes as a major boost for Johnson's side.

The Stoke loanee has already proven how much of an immediate impact he can have on the side following his impressive start to life as a Robin, and there is every chance the frontman could prove the difference as his side chase a play-off spot.

However, Johnson should definitely still try and sign an additional striker this month as the Robins need all the help they can get ahead of the second half of the season, and a varied attacking unit could make them a serious threat in the coming months.
