Benik Afobe has revealed he is delighted to secure promotion with Wolves.

The 25-year-old striker is back on loan at the club from Bournemouth after leaving the West Midlands side to join the Cherries back in 2016.

He joined in January and has five goals in 575 minutes of action with the second goal in the 2-0 victory over Birmingham being the most crucial after he came off the bench in the 74th minute.

Wolves were already guaranteed promotion prior to the match against local rivals Birmingham, but the victory all but ensured that they finished first with Cardiff only able to match their points tally if they win every game and Wolves have three matches remaining.

Here's what Afobe had to say about promotion to WolvesTV: "It’s unbelievable to be part of it and to come on and score is special for me."

"We knew we had to play properly. There were celebrations on Saturday night but we were focused."

"It’s all worth it. When I came here I had a point to prove."

"It’s two years since I’ve been here, with all due respect the team have moved on and got better so I had to up my game as well."

The Verdict

Afobe has certainly contributed significantly to this team since joining on loan in January. It just depends on whether Wolves plan to reward him for that by signing him permanently or whether they have other targets in mind now promotion has been secured.

Regardless, this a moment that he and his teammates can enjoy because they were part of one of the best ever Championship sides with their performance in the Premier League next season mattering little in regards to the reputation they have created this season.

They have three games remaining to savour that success and finish the season on a high with the freedom to enjoy themselves because their objectives have been met.
