Ben White is unclear where his future lies, with Leeds United and Brighton and Hove Albion both keen to oversee the defender’s long-term future.

Leeds have been nurturing the talent of White over the course of the 2019/20 season so far, with the 22-year-old impressing under Marcelo Bielsa despite only making his Championship debut in August.

In total, he’s featured in every minute of Leeds’ push for promotion in the Championship, excelling at centre-back and also showing the potential to step up into the midfield.

His parent-club, Brighton, have made their feelings clear and wish to retain White beyond the summer, but given his form at Elland Road, there’s a desire to see him commit to the Whites long-term.

That’s certainly the feeling on the terraces at Elland Road, with one young fan writing to Brighton and offering his pocket money to bring White to Leeds permanently.

Recently, that young fan got the chance to meet White and quickly put the defender under pressure, asking if he was going to sign for Leeds permanently.

Live on Sky Sports, White responded: "We don't know just yet, but I've really enjoyed my time at Leeds and it's been a really good season so far.”

Pressed further on the future, White talked up his ideal scenario: "Brighton and Leeds in the Premier League, I think.

"That would be amazing for me and then I'll just see what happens next season for me."

The Verdict

White will be as in the dark about the future as the rest of us, with the defender needing to know what division Leeds and Brighton will be playing in before making any decisions.

The general feeling is that it is going to be Premier League football for the 22-year-old, but whose colours he is wearing does remain up in the air.

What you can say is that Leeds have aided White’s development massively and whatever the future holds, he owes a lot to them.
