Ben Watson joined Nottingham Forest in February and has had quite an impact, they're unbeaten since his arrival and are virtually assured of their Championship status next season.

The former Watford midfielder has been made captain of the side that stretched their unbeaten run to six games with a 0-0 draw in the East Midlands derby on Sunday.

Watson has heaped praise on team mate Jack Colback, a recent arrival on loan from Newcastle United.

"Jack has been brilliant," he told the Nottingham Post. "Since I have got into the team, it has been me and him in the middle and he is a quality player who has played at the highest level. The more we can get Jack on the pitch and the more games we play together, it can only benefit the club."

Colback is one of the few players to switch directly between Sunderland and Newcastle, but his move to the club he supported as a boy turned sour. He lashed out at manager Rafa Benitez after joining Forest and his Magpies' days look numbered.

“I think everyone at the club would like to see him extend his stay beyond the end of the season. But if he keeps performing the way he is, I don’t think he will be short of offers in the summer. It will be Jack’s decision come the end of the season. But myself and everyone else would love to see him at the club for longer.”

Colback was on the fringes of the England team as recently as 2014, but withdrew from the squad after picking up a calf injury.

The Verdict

His move to the City Ground will put him in the shop window, that is for sure. I find it staggering he was frozen out at Newcastle, they've hardly excelled in the Premier League and could surely benefit from his experience. If he were available and Forest did sign him, he would be a tremendous addition to the squad. He's looked solid alongside Ben Watson and that pairing could be a catalyst to fire Forest up the Championship table next time out.
