Ben Garner issues Leyton Orient threat ahead of Swindon clash

Leyton Orient punish mistakes and they’re ruthless – that was Ben Garner’s warning to Swindon Town ahead of Tuesday night’s League Two encounter between the pair of promotion chasers, as per the Swindon Advertiser.

Fourth place Town travels to eighth-place Orient knowing they will be in for a stiff tactical battle against Kenny Jackett’s team.

Both teams progressed to the 3rd round of the Emirates FA Cup at the weekend, yet another away success for Town 1-2 at Walsall whereas Orient thrashed Tranmere 4-0.

The O’s will be buoyed by this success and are free-scoring particularly on their home patch where they have only suffered a solitary league defeat while Town’s form on the road is unparalleled.

The Town defence will have to match the physicality possessed by O’s strikers Harry Smith and Aaron Drinan.

Above all, Garner believes Town’s concentration levels must be high particularly defending set pieces if they are going to get any points from the game.

The Verdict

No doubt this will be one of Swindon’s stiffest tests on the road this season.

Will the lower league experience of Kenny Jackett prove dividends against Ben Garner? Sure, Jackett would have noted that Swindon struggled physically against Andy Cook in a 3-1 defeat to Bradford a month ago.

He will be looking to utilise the strength of Harry Smith to unearth this potential weakness in the Swindon backline. But Town have stiffened up defensively since the return of captain Dion Conroy. It is sure to be a tight but absorbing encounter. As the O’s possess a greater goal threat they may be victors and Swindon’s unbeaten away run may end.
