Experienced Watford goalkeeper Ben Foster has pulled no punches when it comes to his feelings on how the team are playing.

The Hornets have only been beaten once since their relegation to the Sky Bet Championship, with new boss Vladimir Ivic putting a focus on being solid at the back rather than free-flowing attacks.

But it's clear to see that they need to be doing much better, as evidenced by their 1-1 draw with Wycombe Wanderers this week.

Speaking to Watford's official media team, the 37-year-old shot-stopper believes that changes must be made quickly if they want to make it back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.

“I think you can expect a bit more [than the Wycombe performance],” said Foster.

“We’re still a very young team and it’s a bit of a baptism of fire into this league when you come up against teams like this, but we need to grow up fast.

“It’s a very, very tough league, you can’t take anything for granted.

"We were third going into this game and they were near the bottom of the league without a point, but we’re the ones happier with a point than them.”

The Verdict

It's nice to see a player tell it how it is for once - not enough of that is seen in the modern game.

On paper, Watford have an incredibly talented squad, and they still have the likes of Andre Gray, Troy Deeney and Will Hughes to return from injury.

But the Hornets really should be scoring more than they are doing with the likes of Joao Pedro and Ismaila Sarr starting games, an issue which is highlighted when you see they've only scored more than one goal in a league game just once.

Pedro, James Garner and Domingos Quina are just a few youngsters who have become regular fixtures in Ivic's plans, and the message from Foster is clear - a lot more endeavour is needed on the pitch for Watford to be successful.
