Sheffield United are reportedly interested in a loan move for Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to The Sun.

Davies hasn't made a single appearance for the Reds, since moving to Anfield from Preston North End back in February 2021.

The 25-year-old is likely to be moved on this summer, with Liverpool looking to sell him permanently. However, Slavisa Jokanovic's side are believed to be keen on a loan deal for Davies, as they look to add depth to their defensive options ahead of the new league campaign.

We take a look at some of the key questions on Sheffield United's rumoured interest in signing Davies on a temporary basis this summer.

Is it a good potential move?

This could be a decent move for Davies, especially if he's looking to find regular minutes in the near future.

It's a shame to see that his move to Liverpool hasn't worked out as originally planned, as Jurgen Klopp clearly doesn't seem him as a good enough option to start compared to the likes of Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips.

Sheffield United need additional strength in depth in their defensive options, and Davies will be eager to prove a point at the earliest of opportunities, so it's a move that's likely to work for all parties involved this summer.

Would be start?

Slavisa Jokanovic already has some strong options in the heart of the Sheffield United defence, but Davies would certainly be confident of starting on a regular basis for the Blades if he signed for the club.

He made 145 appearances in total for Preston North End earlier in his career, and caught the eye with a number of strong performances for the Lancashire-based side.

Those impressive showings saw him earn a move to Liverpool, and even though it hasn't gone as he would have hoped, it still says a lot about his ability if he can earn a move to Anfield in the first place.

With Jack O'Connell edging closer to a return to action with Sheffield United, him and Davies could prove to be a strong defensive partnership, although Chris Basham and John Egan would also provide them with strong options.

But with Phil Jagielka leaving the club in the summer, and Kean Bryan's future remaining 'up in the air', Davies could be close to a regular starting spot with Sheffield United this term.

What does he offer?

Sheffield United are likely to dominate the majority of the possession in the Championship this season, as teams look to play a more defensive style of football.

Therefore, the Blades are going to need players that are confident on the ball, and Davies certainly fits that description. The defender had a pass accuracy of 87.4% from the 836 passes he attempted for Preston North End in the 2020/21 season. (Statistics sourced from Wyscout)

Davies might not be the most dominant of defenders in the air though, with the 25-year-old only winning 53% of the 100 aerial duels he was faced with for the Lancashire-based side.

But he made 121 interceptions in the 2020/21 campaign for Preston, and has shown that he can cut it when it comes to performing to a good enough standard in the Championship.
