Blackburn Rovers are interested in making a summer move for Liverpool defender Ben Davies, as per a Sky Sports Transfer Centre (10/07, 11:00) update.

The report states that the Lancashire outfit will be battling it out with Stoke City for the Reds defender who spent last season out on loan with Sheffield United.

Progressing through the academy ranks at Preston North End, the 26-year-old accumulated over 100 appearances for the Lilywhites before arriving at Liverpool in February 2021.

Is it a good potential move?

Not only would Blackburn bolster their defensive options with the addition of another body, but they would also be gaining a strong Championship option who could help the club thrive next season.

It is difficult to determine whether Rovers will look to deploy a three-at-the-back system when the new campaign begins, but ultimately, Davies is someone who has impressed as part of a back three or within a solid back four.

Given his evident ability, it is no surprise to see the level of interest that there currently is.

Would he start?

Should he arrive at Ewood Park, he would likely see regular Championship minutes, another hint that this could be the correct move for the defender.

As mentioned above, he is someone who can operate in different systems, providing Jon Dahl Tomasson with flexibility.

A dependable figure too, Davies is someone that could play an integral role at Ewood Park in a year when expectations are likely to be relatively high once again.

What does he offer?

A physically dominant defender, who has shown good progressive abilities during his time operating within Championship football, Davies ticks a lot of boxes for the clubs in pursuit.

He is an intelligent defensive operator too, proving to read the game very well.

Another impressive attribute he possesses is his ability to threaten in the final third, something he was able to display last season whilst on loan with the Blades.
