West Ham had a very quiet window this summer as the club failed to deliver the targets David Moyes wanted initially.

The Hammers boss had identified the need to bring in a centre-back but no deal could be reached for England international James Tarkowski, whilst a host of late moves prior to the international deadline earlier this month also didn't come off.

As a result, the Londoners are expected to be one of the busiest clubs ahead of Friday's domestic deadline and Football Insider claimed that Preston's Ben Davies was interesting West Ham as they seek defensive reinforcements.

Thankfully for North End fans, it seems highly unlikely that a £10m move for the 25-year-old will happen as the Premier League side announced the signing of Craig Dawson yesterday which should end that particular interest.

Of course, things can change very quickly in football and a failure to land one of their attacking targets may mean they have more of a budget to play with and Davies is clearly someone they could sign for the long-term.

But, whilst you can never guarantee anything, it does appear as though Davies will be at Deepdale until January at least, which will be a major relief to all connected to Preston given his quality.

What happens from then on is anyone's guess though. The defender has entered the final year of his deal and he has been linked to Scottish champions Celtic in the past as well.

If Alex Neil's men can't agree a new deal with the player then a pre-contract with the Glasgow giants could occur or West Ham may return with a lower offer or wait until he is available on a free.

So, even though this is a transfer story that shouldn't pick up ahead of Friday, you can expect to see Davies' name linked with a move away in 2021.
