It is a credit to Brereton-Diaz's professionalism that his performance levels have not dropped, despite intense speculation coming around his future at the club and a potential move to the Premier League.

The jury is still out on where Rovers will be competing in the second tier this season, but the break should be a positive for them, in giving players a break in what is a fairly thin squad at Ewood Park.

Tomasson has looked a smart appointment so far and it will be interesting to see how far he can take them before the January window.

The Verdict

It is now five losses in their last seven matches for Blackburn, and that would suggest that they are set to slip into mid table in the near future and quieten any potential hopes of a play-off bid.

In terms of their starting XI and the quality of some of their key players, Rovers should be included in the top six chasing pack, but in a relentless campaign the squad that they have assembled may not be up to the test and a season of consolidation appears to be more realistic.

Blackburn resume their second tier campaign in hosting Millwall after the break before a trip to Cardiff City, who will likely have a new manager in place by the time they arrive.
