Nottingham Forest have reportedly opted not to extend Aro Muric's loan deal and the goalkeeper has returned to Manchester City, which has drawn an interesting reaction from many fans of the East Midlands club.

The 21-year-old joined on a season-long loan in July and was the Reds' first-choice shot-stopper for the first few weeks of the 2019/20 campaign but quickly lost his place to fellow summer signing Brice Samba.

Muric made just five appearances in total for Forest and has not featured since the 5-0 Carabao Cup defeat at the hands of Arsenal in September.

It has been reported that, following a delay of more than two months, there is optimism that the Championship will return in June but it appears the Kosovan international will not be with Forest if it does.

According to The Athletic's Daniel Taylor, the East Midlands club have not opted to extend his loan deal, which was set to expire at the end of May, and the 21-year-old has returned to Manchester City.

It is a move that makes a lot of sense given the impressive form of Samba this term, while it is understood that Muric's attitude has been suspect at times.

It does not appear that the towering Kosovan will be missed much by the City Ground faithful, many of whom have taken to Twitter to reflect on his time at the club.
