Despite their solid start to the Championship season, it is fair to say that Brentford have been lacking an out and out striker to lead the line this term, with winger Ollie Watkins having to fill the void up to now.

One potential player who could indeed fill this required role is 20-year-old striker Marcus Forss, who has spent the first half of the campaign out on loan at League One outfit AFC Wimbledon.

The Finnish youngster has been in sparkling form for the Dons so far, finding the back of the net on seven occasions in his first 10 league games, thus catching the attention of his parent club.

Bees boss Thomas Frank will surely be considering a recall for the young striker in January, with the club in desperate need of reinforcements at the top end of the pitch.

In our latest FLW Six Pointer article, we analyse the reasons why a recall for Forss could be a great route for Brentford to go down...

Firstly, how would you sum up the striker's season so far?

"I think he has been in superb form since moving to Wimbledon, he has adapted seamlessly to the physical nature of League One and for me he is easily one of the division's best strikers.

"He shows a strong level of tactical nous despite still being 20-years-old, thus suggesting that his game will only continue to develop over the coming months.

"His hattrick away at Southend United has been a particular highlight,  with the striker showcasing his ability to shoot cleanly using both feet to net two first-half strikes, before showcasing his confidence once more to score from the penalty spot.

"Overall it has been a strong start to the campaign for Forss and it's fair to say that Wimbledon fans would be gutted if Brentford were to recall the young forward."

What are his main strengths?

"His main strengths are his ability to hold up the ball and bring others into to play and his natural goal-scoring instincts, which have seen him score an all manner of different goals during his stint at Kingsmeadow.

"In addition to this, Forss has shown his aerial capabilities, with his header in the away game against MK Dons showcasing his ability to get on the end of crosses.

"Lastly, the forward also possess a good burst of pace that allows him to dribble away from opponents into space either on the edge of the box or in behind the opposition backline."

Do you think Brentford would be wise to recall Forss?

"I believe so yes, obviously the Bees already have the services of Ollie Watkins to call upon at present, however, I feel that Forss can offer something different for Frank in attack.

"Watkins may have found his goal-scoring touch this season, but I still feel the former Exeter City man needs to develop the way he holds up the ball when it is played into him.

"By bringing Forss back into the equation, the Bees will have more of an outlet to play through, as opposed to Watkins who is more keen to run in behind.

"It seems like a no brainer for Brentford, but ultimately the decision rests with Thomas Frank."

Would he be a regular starter?

"I don't believe so no, however, he will provide the west London side with another option to utilise against opposition that is harder to break down.

"Frank will be able to deploy a front two up top, which is something he has so far failed to experiment with this term, due to the injury problems that have been experienced by Nikos Karelis.

"Forss and Watkins would, in theory, work well with each other up top, with Forss being capable of holding the ball up whilst the latter runs in behind."

Do Brentford need him?

"It's hard to say in all honesty, as the Bees already have a deal in place for Turkish forward Halil Dervisoglu to join the club in January from Dutch Eredivisie side Sparta Rotterdam, meaning that competition for places up front will be increased.

"I personally believe that Forss would be wise to remain at Wimbledon, as he seems really comfortable and happy with the way the loan spell has gone so far, meaning that he may want to at least see the rest of the season out at Kingsmeadow.

"With Dervisoglu coming in during the upcoming transfer window, it seems that Forss would see his game time very limited if he was to return to Griffin Park."

And lastly, what do you make of the reported interest in the 20-year-old from Premier League clubs?

"I think it's extremely interesting to see that his exploits in League One are already attracting attention from clubs that are much higher up the pyramid.

"I think with the striker being just 20-years-old, he presents an attractive option for the future, with the Finn still having his best years ahead of him.

"He could be a good signing for a mid-table Premier League club to bring in before potentially loaning him back to Brentford so that he can continue to develop his overall game."
