Ipswich Town released a video yesterday of new keeper Tomas Holy looking around Portman Road in wonder.

The former Gillingham man made the move to the Tractor Boys this summer and is clearly impressed with the grand old stadium.

Portman Road has seen some truly wonderful matches and eras. Whether it was their UEFA Cup winning season of 1982, or their impressive fifth-place finish in the Premier League in 2001.

They even beat Inter Milan 1-0 there in November 2001 courtesy of an Alun Armstrong goal, although they lost the away leg 4-1.

It's been packed to the rafters on big European nights and for crucial league encounters and, when it is, the atmosphere is tremendous.

In recent years that success has gone away and they've struggled to fill the stadium, even for their local derby against Norwich City. This campaign, they're welcoming the likes of Southend and Gillingham, rather than their 'Old Farm' rivals.

It doesn't make it any less of a sight though. Portman Road is a stage built for football at a bigger level than League One and Holy is right to be impressed.

He speculates about seeing it full, but that's drawn a number of supporters to Twitter with some rather acerbic comments, as you'll read below.
