At the back end of August, Alex Mighten made the temporary switch from Nottingham Forest to Sheffield Wednesday.

Joining the Owls on a season-long loan deal, the 20-year-old made the drop to the third tier seeking experience and regular game time.

That hasn't necessarily all come his way at the club so far, though, having recently endured a seven match spell where he was either on the bench and did not play or not in the squad altogether. A single start at home to Cheltenham in October was wedged in between.

The 20-year-old has started Sheffield Wednesday's last two League One matches, though, scoring the winning goal away at Accrington earlier this month.

With all of the above in mind, we asked our Owls fan pundit Callum Maxted how he thought the Forest loanee was getting on so far.

"Alex has been a bit hit and miss really." Callum told FLW.

"I think it's just confidence to be honest. He's come in as a 19-year-old to a league where it's very physical and you need to be able to beat your man and get to the by-line and put a cross in really and he's struggling to do that.

"But, over the past two games, he's really stepped up in terms of his quality on the ball, I think you just need to give him that confidence to go on and beat his first man and get a cross in or, beat his first man and cut in and shoot.

"That'll come with him playing and he's not really had the minutes that I think is good enough for him but he's a 19 year old lad and we play different formations so for me that's very positive to see that he's he's realised that he needs to step up and he has been doing so.

"That's all you can ask for really, competition. I'd be fine with him going back but I think it's important we have a player like that who can beat his man and put a cross in really."

The Verdict

It clearly hasn't been a perfect start for Alex Mighten at Sheffield Wednesday.

That is not to say it has been a bad one though, and progress has seemingly been made in recent weeks which could suggest a better second half of the season.

Given his number of appearances as a squad player in the Championship, you perhaps did expect Mighten to hit the ground running slightly better it has to be said.

Nevertheless, as above, it's been far from a disaster, and he could potentially play an important role as the club push for automatic promotion in the second half of the campaign.
