Gus Poyet is reportedly a candidate to take charge at Sunderland after Phil Parkinson's sacking.

Parkinson was relieved of his duties yesterday and, according to journalist Alan Nixon, Poyet could return for his second stint at the Stadium of Light as his replacement.

But would that be a good move? And is he the right man for the job?

We quizzed our FLW writers for their thoughts...

Gus Poyet may be a popular figure at the Stadium Of Light, but this would not be a good appointment.

League One is a difficult division to get out of - something that we've seen under Phil Parkinson and Jack Ross.

What Sunderland need is a manager who knows the EFL and will ruffle some feathers within the camp.

Poyet led the club through an exciting period but it's a case of horses for courses, and unfortunately for Poyet I just don't think he's the man to help the club move forward.

It'd be a bold decision from Poyet to return to Sunderland following his initial departure, but it could work.

In truth, Poyet enjoyed a decent spell in charge of the Black Cats and seemingly has a good rapport with the Sunderland fanbase, but he's got a real task on his hands.

The new owners of the club will be demanding promotion, nothing more, nothing less, and Poyet would be expected to hit the ground running immediately to change the club's fortunes after a wobbly few weeks in League One.

My number one choice would be Paul Cook, but Poyet is someone who knows the EFL well and whom could be someone who installs an element of passion back into that Sunderland dressing room.

It seems that Poyet would welcome a return, and if he's afforded patience and time and backing in the January transfer window, it could work

This really is a case of "here we go again" for Sunderland as the Poyet rumour mill once again rears its head following the departure of Phil Parkinson.

Theres no doubting that Poyet has great pedigree in management but League One football is a whole different kettle of fish to the glitz and glam of the Premier League and for that reason I think he could well struggle if he returned to the Black Cats.

They should be looking to appoint a manager who knows the division like the back of their hand and I honestly don't believe Poyet would/does.

Although his appointment would set tongues wagging, I really think this would be a move that would be based on sentiment rather than necessity.
