Barry Douglas has shared a social media update as the Leeds United full-back prepares for his return to the matchday fold this weekend against Blackburn Rovers.

Leeds have been without Douglas in their last two fixtures, with the left-back sitting out of the draw against Sheffield Wednesday and victory over Queens Park Rangers last weekend.

However, Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed that Douglas is back in contention this weekend, with the Scot shaking off his knee injury.

Ezgjan Alioski’s continued absence means that the path is clear for Douglas to potentially move back into the starting line-up after a spell behind the Macedonian at left-back.

And, the 30-year-old

It has been a frustrating start to the season for Douglas, who after starting the season as Leeds’ first choice left-back, lost his place in the side to Alioski.

He’s still made seven appearances and registered one assist, but only three of those appearances have been in the starting line-up.

The Verdict

Douglas is obviously very keen to get back in the fold for Leeds this weekend, which is understandable.

Having lost his place – unfairly in the eyes of some – he now has a chance to win it back, with Leeds playing a formation (3-4-3 of sorts) that he’s thrived in before.

A strong impact on Saturday could open the door for him to move back ahead of Alioski in the pecking order.
