Leeds United's Barry Douglas has revealed he is pleased with his progress as he steps up his comeback from a knee injury suffered in March.

That kept the left-back out of the run-in, meaning he could only watch on as the Whites missed out on an automatic promotion place and then lost to Derby in the play-offs.

However, he has been on schedule in terms of his recovery and was seen with his teammates as they reported back for pre-season.

And, the Scotland international told Leeds' official site about the work he has put in to get back fit and explained that he is nearing full fitness.

"It’s been a busy schedule for me, I’ve been working hard and haven’t had much time off. I spent two weeks in Portugal doing my rehab with the physios and some time in Dubai working as well and I feel really good physically.

"I’m at the last step now, I’m just progressing to contact and striking the ball again, but I’ve got pre-season and time on my hands, so I’m not going to try and speed up that process, it will come all in good time."

The Verdict

Even though he perhaps didn't replicate the form he had shown for Wolves from a year before, Douglas was still an important player for Leeds and he was missed for the final months of the campaign.

He brings a real quality on the ball with his excellent left-foot and a balance to the team down the flank.

So, fans will be delighted to see that his recovery has gone well and he is joining up with the squad as they prepare for what will be a tough pre-season.

It will also be a relief for Douglas as players know the benefit of having a good pre-season and he will benefit from being able to join up with his teammates from the start.
