Barry Bannan has told his Sheffield Wednesday teammates that they need to be more ruthless in front of goal if they're to challenge for the top six.

After drawing level with Swansea City on Saturday, the Owls looked to have won the game when Morgan Fox scored in the first minute of injury time at the end of the game.

With just a few minutes left to see out, Watford loanee Ben Wilmot popped up to draw the Swans level at the last moment, condemning Garry Monk's side to just a point at Hillsborough.

Sheffield Wednesday has 20 shots on goal during the clash in South Yorkshire, and speaking to the Sheffield Star, Bannan said that it's crucial that they put they capitalise on that dominance if they're to achieve their goals this term.

He said: "We should have put the game beyond doubt really, we had enough chances to be miles ahead.

"That’s what happens in football, if you don’t take your chances you get punished. We were punished today. [freshpress-poll ]
"When you’re sitting on a one-goal lead it’s not comfortable and in this league teams are going to have spells in a game. They didn’t even have those spells, it was just two set plays that cost us." Bannan added: "We had hit the post and had chances cleared off the line. On another day we could have been 3-0 up.
"They took their chance, fair play to them, but we came in the second half, kept going, and got our reward by going 2-1 up, which we probably deserved.
"But to concede in the last minute feels like we have lost the game. You forget you have drawn 2-2, you just feel like you have lost the game." The verdict While Sheffield Wednesday have made a decent start to the season, there's certainly improvements that can be made. If Garry Monk's side are to mount a sustainable push for the top-six it's crucial that they capitalise on spells of dominance in order to put the game to bed. While a point against Swansea City is nothing to be sniffed at, those two dropped points could be crucial at the end of the season.
