Lee Gregory had put Darren Moore’s side into an early lead, but goals from Callum Camps and Joe Garner had relegation-threatened Fleetwood in control at half-time.
Gregory, though, struck twice in two minutes to complete his hat-trick and put Wednesday back ahead in the game.
A 3-2 win, then, means that the Owls sit fourth in the table and have their play-off fate in their own hands heading into a final day that pitches them up against Portsmouth at Hillsborough.
For Bannan, he took to Instagram to issue a message after a memorable night on the road.
There was, naturally, a message for Gregory given his hat-trick, alongside a rallying cry to the club’s supporters ahead of a big crowd flooding into Hillsborough at the weekend for Pompey’s visit:

Moore’s side are fourth in the table on 82 points, part of a four-way race for the three places in the play-offs.
Sunderland are narrowly behind them on 81 points, with the Black Cats facing a trip to Morecambe on Saturday. Plymouth Argyle and Wycombe Wanderers are sixth and seventh respectively, on 80 points and separated by goal difference alone.
Wycombe travel to Burton Albion on Saturday, whilst Plymouth host MK Dons, who are still in with a shot of automatic promotion.
Sheffield Wednesday quiz: Does Hillsborough have a bigger or smaller capacity than these 20 stadiums?
Last night was absolutely huge for Sheffield Wednesday.
Had they lost to Fleetwood, it would have left them seventh in the table and needing results to go in their favour on the final day to guarantee a place in the play-offs.
As it is, two goals from Gregory means that they are fourth and just one win away from being a certainty in the play-offs.
With a huge crowd heading to Hillsborough for Portsmouth’s visit, Wednesday will be full of confidence of getting the required result.
