Sheffield Wednesday are back in action this lunchtime against Charlton Athletic, with the Owls looking to end a five match winless run in the Sky Bet Championship.

Garry Monk’s side have picked up only three points of the last 15 that have been available to them, losing to West Brom and drawing with Birmingham City on the back of November’s international break.

This afternoon sees them head to The Valley to take on Charlton and Lee Bowyer, with Barry Bannan previewing the game on his personal Twitter account:

Bannan has been a regular at Wednesday this season under both Monk and Lee Bullen, with the Scottish midfielder making 16 appearances in the Championship.

In that time he’s registered three assists but failed to score a goal for the Owls from the central midfield positions.

The 29-year-old completed 90 minutes of Wednesday night’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City, with Kadeem Harris rescuing Monk’s side a point at Hillsborough with his 81st minute effort.

A win for Wednesday today could help see the Owls close the four point gap that’s opened up between them and the play-off places.

The Verdict

Today is a tough game for the Owls, with Charlton picking up some good results this season, particularly at home.

Monk will be relying on Bannan and his other senior players to guide the side to a positive result and get Wednesday back on track.

It has been a tough few weeks for the Owls, but they’ve got the quality to turn things around.
