Sheffield Wednesday midfielder Barry Bannan has hailed the impact that new manager Garry Monk has had on the team since taking charge at Hillsborough, after the 4-1 win over Middlesbrough.

Monk was appointed as the Owls' new manager earlier this month and is unbeaten in his three league matches in charge so far.

Wednesday made it back-to-back away wins with a convincing win at the Riverside Stadium yesterday, where the Owls blew their opponents away with four goals in the first half.

Bannan has been a key player for Wednesday over the past few seasons and has started eight of the Owls' nine Championship matches so far this term.

The 29-year-old has praised the impact that Monk has had on the team since he took charge at Hillsborough earlier this month and is feeling optimistic about the season ahead.

"He just makes things clear. There is no in between. He just makes it simple as a player and tells you what he wants you to do and who is your man. There are no excuses if things go wrong. We know who is to blame," Bannan told The Sheffield Star.

"It has been a big thing and knowing what your job and role is in the team and I think the boys have bought into it perfectly. It is still early days yet but it is looking good."

Wednesday finished ten points outside the play-offs in the Championship last season but have made a promising start to their new campaign and are now seventh in the league table, just three points behind the leaders.

The Verdict

Sheffield Wednesday have made a promising start to the season and if they can continue their momentum, there's no reason why they can't challenge for promotion this term.

Monk is an experienced manager, but I've been really impressed with how he's been able to get the best out of the players since taking charge at Hillsborough.

Middlesbrough is always a difficult place to go, so to score four goals in one half is very impressive, but the all-round performance will have pleased Monk too.

It's still early days yet and there's still room for improvement, but they're plenty of reasons for Wednesday fans to be optimistic about the season ahead.
