Barnsley losing Tom Bradshaw could be the difference in making an immediate return to the Championship or languishing in League One.

In the third tier you can get away with going without real top quality in areas in exchange for team organisation and togetherness.

It works, and it will get you so far.

But teams who have been able to gain promotion from the depths of League One, in the main, all have one thing in common - they’ve had a goal scorer.

If you have that, you are on your way.

The togetherness, cohesion and organisation takes you so far before the baton is passed the strikers who can fire you to promotion.

Tom Bradshaw is that man for Barnsley.

Ollie McBurnie starred for the Tykes as they were relegated last season, scoring 9 in 17 games, but he won’t be dropping down a division having signed a new deal with the Swans.

Bradshaw scored 10 in 43 for the Tykes, but in League One he would be a force, if still at Oakwell.

Millwall and Hull have been two teams linked with the striker, with the former reported to be close to finalising a deal for the 25-year-old.

If Bradshaw does depart, Barnsley will need to be creative and find a player to fill the void he will undoubtedly leave.

Forward Kieffer Moore could well fill the void should Bradshaw go

But he too is linked with a move back to the Championship with Preston North End potential suitors for his signature.

Barnsley have the core of a squad that can challenge in League One, but that could well be them competing for a top six place at best without a man to hit the back of the net consistently.

The Tykes could well lose one if not two of their striking options this summer, they will need to replace them with equal quality if they are to challenge for promotion from League One come May.
