Barnsley manager Gerhard Struber is reportedly confident that Cauley Woodrow and Alex Mowatt will stay at the club, despite reports linking them with January exits.

The Tykes boss is nine days into his first transfer window at the club, having taken charge in November.

Struber has been busy already, sending Cameron McGeehan out on loan and bringing in Marcel Ritzmaier from his former club, and a number of other members of his squad have been linked with moves away this month.

The Sun on Sunday (05/01, p61) has reported previously that Leeds United are interested in a move for Woodrow, as a potential replacement for recalled Arsenal loanee Eddie Nkietiah.

While The Athletic has claimed that Nottingham Forest have identified Mowatt as a potential central midfield target.

Speaking to the Yorkshire Post, Struber revealed he was confident neither player would leave the club during the winter transfer window.

Woodrow and Mowatt have been two of Barnsley's most influential players this season. The former is the Tykes top scorer, having found the net nine times in 22 appearances, while the latter is the club captain and has started 24 times in the Championship.

The Verdict

This will likely be music to the ears of the majority of Tykes fans.

Mowatt and Woodrow have been two of Barnsley's finest contributors in the 2019/20 campaign and their survival chances look stronger with them at the club.

There are slight question marks over exactly what role Woodrow will play in Struber's system–having been used at the top of the diamond in recent months–but you feel he will have a key part to play if he stays.
