Barnsley headlines have been dominated by Valerien Ismael and Alex Mowatt leaving Oakwell for a new challenge at West Bromwich Albion over the course of the last week or so.

Markus Schopp has already been appointed as Ismael's successor, with Barnsley refusing to stand still after bidding farewell to the Frenchman.

There is, of course, a need to now focus on adding to the squad at Oakwell; quality like Mowatt needs to be replaced, particularly if the club have aspirations of repeating last year's feat of challenging for the top-six.

A setback of sorts has already unfolded, though, with a reported target moving elsewhere in the Championship:

Emiliano Marcondes

Emiliano was one of Brentford's play-off heroes in the season just gone, scoring at Wembley as the Bees beat Swansea City to secure promotion into the Premier League.

However, the 26-year-old was released at the end of the season and swiftly linked with a move to Barnsley.

The weekend just gone has seen the attacking midfielder instead link up with AFC Bournemouth, who have handed him a three-year deal.

Ethan Erhahon

The Scottish Sun claim that the St Mirren midfielder is attracting interest from Barnsley this summer, with the Tykes willing to table a bid of £250k to sign him.

Erhahon, 20, is a Scottish under-21 international and has previously had a stint on loan with Barnsley earlier in his career.

Despite the interest from Oakwell in re-signing Erhahon, the fact the midfielder has two years to run on his contract means St Mirren are likely to demand more than the reported £250k.

Jamie McCart

McCart, 24, has been in impressive form for St Johnstone over the course of the last 12 months and is not short of interest this summer.

As per the Scottish Sun, Barnsley are amongst the clubs interested in bringing the defender South of the border.

There are, though, plenty of rivals, including Nottingham Forest, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday. Hibs are also interested in offering McCart a different challenge in Scotland, whilst Royale Union Saint-Gilloise have reportedly entered the race too.
