Barnsley are putting plans in place ahead of a second season in the Championship and a first full campaign under Gerhard Struber.

Struber was impressive for the Tykes last season, managing to keep the club in the Championship after dramatic wins against Nottingham Forest and Brentford during the run-in.

A clash with Nottingham Forest in the League Cup is a matter of weeks away, with Barnsley set to lock horns with Luton Town just seven days later on the opening weekend of the Championship season.

So, how is Struber’s squad shaping up ahead of then?

We look to break down a couple of key transfer talking points…

Clarke Oduor

Oduor was only signed by Barnsley 12 months ago, with the Tykes luring him out of Leeds.

According to Football Insider, there’s interest in him from another Yorkshire club in Sheffield United.

It’s claimed that the Blades have registered an interest in the young full-back, who scored the crucial goal to help Barnsley beat Brentford on the final day.

That was the 21-year-old’s only goal of the Championship season. He made 16 appearances.

Ben Whiteman

According to Yorkshire Live, Barnsley have seen three bids knocked back for Whiteman.

The Doncaster Rovers skipper, 24, made 33 appearances for Barnsley’s South Yorkshire rivals in League One last season, scoring five goals.

Struber is keen on the midfielder, but so are Championship rivals, Blackburn Rovers.

Additionally, Sheffield United are showing an interest.

Barnsley are in the bidding, though.

Pascal Kopke

Struber’s side were toothless in attack on occasions last season and there will be a need for Barnsley to strengthen their attacking options this summer.

According to German outlet Kicker, there’s an interest in Hertha Berlin man, Kopke.

The 24-year-old hasn’t quite made the grade in the Bundesliga, but he’s been prolific in the second-tier before, scoring 20 goals between 2016 and 2018 for Erzgebirge.
