According to HITC Sport, a duo of Swansea City players are being lined up by Barnsley.

Sources close to HITC Sport understand that Barnsley are trying to sign Oli McBurnie and Mark Birighitti on loan.

With time running out in the summer transfer window, Barnsley are looking to strengthen their squad after losing a number of key players.

Andy Yiadom is expected to join Huddersfield, following Josh Scowen, Marley Watkins and Marc Roberts out of the exit door at Oakwell.

Barnsley are desperate to sign a striker this summer.

Their current options are Chelsea loanee Ike Ugbo and Tom Bradshaw but they want a third forward to provide competition for places.

Oli McBurnie could be that addition.

The 6ft 2in centre forward is a target man who knows where the net is.

The 21-year-old has two goals in six games for Swansea but finds himself behind Fernando Llorente and Tammy Abraham in the pecking order.

Therefore, he could be sent out on loan.

When given a chance in the Swansea under-23 squad for the Checkatrade Trophy, the Scotland youth international bagged five goals in four games.

Barnsley also want Mark Birighitti to compete with Adam Davies in goal.

The 26-year-old has not played a single game for Swansea since joining them last summer.

The Verdict

Mark Birighitti needs to head to the Championship.

The once-capped Australian international is also down the pecking order at Swansea and needs to move if he wants to make the squad for the 2018 World Cup.

As for Oli McBurnie, I'm surprised that he is not a highly sought after loan signing.

The 21-year-old is a well-rounded striker with an eye for goal; this could be perfect for Barnsley.
