Barnsley have taken former Stevenage striker Marcus Haber on trial, the League One side have revealed.

Haber was released by Stevenage this summer.

Haber was released by Stevenage this summer.

The Canadian international was included in the club’s friendly match against Manchester United reserves at Oakwell this evening.

The striker was brought to England by West Brom in 2010, Haber has since taken in spells with Exeter City and St Johnstone before former Stevenage manager Gary Smith brought him to Broadhall Way.

Haber was a key player during Smith’s reign as Stevenage manager, making 42 league appearances in his first season with the club. However the striker was not a favourite of Graham Westley and made only three appearances for the Hertforshire club before being released this summer.

The 25 year-old took in a loan spell with Notts County last season where he managed two goals in 11 appearances for the Magpies.

Barnsley are searching for a replacement for Chris O’Grady who recently left the club for Brighton. At 6 ft 3, Haber would offer a similar physical presence to O’Grady in attack for the Tykes should they pursue a permanent deal.
