Barnsley still set for potential transfer deal involving Premier League club

According to reports from the BBC, despite the deadline having passed at 11 pm last night Championship club Barnsley could still be involved in another transfer.

The deal, should it go through, would see Barnsley defender Andy Yiadom join Premier League club Swansea City but both clubs are waiting on confirmation from the Football Association that the paperwork went through on time.

The 25-year-old has been a long-time target for the Swans as they look to complete their final deal of what has been a busy transfer deadline day.

Yesterday saw Paul Clement’s side bring in Wilfried Bony from Manchester City along with a transfer that shocked the world, which saw Renato Sanches join on a season long loan from Bayern Munich.

The Ghanaian, who can play as either a left-back or a right-back, featured 32 times in the league for Barnsley last season as the club finished 14th in the Championship.

The Verdict

Here at FLW, we’re not quite sure why Barnsley decided to let a player go so late, especially a player who featured so heavily for them during the 2016/17 campaign.

The club might be hoping that the paperwork wasn’t put through in time now just so they can keep the player who can still be of much use to them during this season, or at least until January when Swansea would surely come back in for him.

The deadline day never fails to surprise us.
