Barnsley have today announced that striker Kieffer Moore has been ruled out for the rest of the season following medical advice, striking a blow to their promotion hopes.

Moore is the club's top scorer this season with 16 goals but has not played since the start of February when he suffered a concussion in a clash with Gillingham.

In a statement posted to the club's official Twitter account, they wrote: "Barnsley Football Club can confirm that following medical advice, Kieffer Moore will be out for the remainder of the season."

The Tykes only signed Moore from Ipswich Town in January 2018 but has made an immediate impact, scoring 22 goals in 51 appearances.

The goalscoring burden is likely to now fall solely at the feet of Cauley Woodrow who has scored ten times in 19 appearances since joining in the summer.

Daniel Stendel's side are currently sat in second place in the League One table, five points behind league-leaders Luton Town but just two ahead of Sunderland.

This weekend sees them travel to mid-table Southend United as they look to maintain their push for an immediate return to the second-tier.

The verdict

What a huge blow this is for Barnsley.

The Tykes have done brilliantly this season and Stendel has done a great job to get them playing some slick football so quickly with Moore as the focal point.

But when it comes to head injuries it is, of course, better to take extra care.
