Barnsley star speaks about his future after handing in a transfer request last month

Barnsley midfielder Marley Watkins has said that he is happy to stay at Oakwell and play, according to the club’s official website.

Marley Watkins handed in a transfer request during the January transfer window amid widespread speculation but the Tykes managed to hold firm and keep him at the club.

Barnsley had already lost star trio Sam Winnall, James Bree and Conor Hourihane so they were keen to keep the likes of Marley Watkins, Marc Roberts and Angus MacDonald – who were all linked with moves away from Oakwell.

Watkins told the club’s official website:

“I just want to make it clear to all the fans that I’m happy here, really happy.

I didn’t take much notice of the speculation but I know there were a few rumours flying around which was a bit surreal.

To be completely honest with you all, yes I did hand in a transfer request after finding out that there was Premier League interest in me.”

The 26-year-old winger has 6 goals in 28 appearances this season and has been central to Barnsley’s play-off challenge.
