Oakwell hasn't been shy of transfer dealings this summer, positively and negatively for Barnsley fans, as the club have sealed two signings already but one of their most prized assets has also departed Yorkshire this summer.

Whilst the two additions will please Paul Heckingbottom, Stevie Mallan and Jason McCarthy, although highly sought-after attacker Marley Watkins has walked through the exit door to Norwich City.

It is of the utmost importance that the boss to bring in arrivals who have already experimented in the Championship. Indeed, more specifically, Elder boasts knowledge of the club itself.

He spent the second-half of last season on loan at the Tykes and featured in eleven games for Barnsley as they finished in mid-table mediocracy, a satisfactory end to their first campaign back in the second-tier following dropping to League One three years ago.

The 22-year-old would appear to be surplus to requirements at parent club Leicester City, although his contract at the Foxes doesn't expire until 2019, so a fee would have to be paid.

Which is why the notion of a loan bid could prove to be a tempting one for the Tykes.

Whilst the Australian isn't the strongest defender in the Championship, his versatility across the back line could make him pivotal to any Play-Off cause.

Barnsley supporters, what did you make of Callum Elder last season? Can he prove a useful utility player? Does he suit Heckingbottom's side? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
