With Toumani Diagouraga set to have his contract at Leeds United terminated, the French midfielder will certainly attract a lot of interest from clubs across the Championship.

The 30-year-old was very impressive during a six year spell with Brentford, helping the Bees to promotion, and his powerhouse engine in the middle of the park often inspired Brentford to wins during his time at the club.

Diagouraga joined Leeds just last year, but was shipped out to Ipswich on loan for the second half of last season, making twelve appearances as the Tractor Boys recorded a mid table finish.

With Diagouraga set to be available on a free transfer, it is Barnsley who should consider a swoop for the player.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom has made a magnitude of signings this summer, but adding a player of the Frenchman’s calibre and experience will be a welcome addition to the Oakwell outfit.

Barnsley have picked up just three points from their opening four encounters, and Diagouraga’s presence in the midfield could sure up up a team that have leaked seven goals already this term.

Diagouraga has the ability to patrol the midfield, protecting the defence from counter attacks as the Tykes surge forward.

Although he may not be considered a starter, Diagouraga is the perfect player to bring on to see games out, and his presence will spread calmness through what is a young squad.

Manager Paul Heckingbottom has huge ambitions for his Yorkshire side, and the addition of the work horse Frenchman will further improve the squad at his disposal.

Would Diagouraga be a welcome addition to your squad, Tykes fans?
