One of the main reasons why Barnsley have been so successful over the past eighteen months is their ability to continually make astute signings which other clubs oversee.

Now that Barnsley are establishing themselves in the Championship, they have the ability to challenge their rivals for more well-known starlets from lower league clubs.

This summer, one player who will almost certainly be attracting attention from a number of Championship and League 1 clubs is Coventry City's highly-rated forward, George Thomas.

Despite a torrid season in League 1 which saw Coventry City relegated, one of the only silver linings was the emergence and form of academy product George Thomas.

The 20-year-old took centre stage at Wembley when he was the star performer in the EFL Trophy final for Coventry City as they defeated Oxford United 2-1.

That day, Thomas was the man of the match performer with a well-executed goal and the youngster forged a name for himself as one of the brightest young talents in the Football League.

The dynamic form of the 20-year-old winger-come-forward has continued into the summer with the Welsh Under-19 international scoring four times already in the Toulon tournament and being named in the team of the tournament.

With George Thomas' contract set to expire in the summer, a whole host of clubs are lining themselves up to fight to secure Thomas' signature and to persuade Thomas himself to join their side for a bargain price.

Whilst some clubs may be able to offer better wages than Barnsley, Paul Heckingbottom has shown that he is willing to give young talent the chance to thrive in his side and the guarantee of first team football at the Championship level could be enough to persuade George Thomas to move to the South Yorkshire side.

Having made a reputation of making astute signings, George Thomas could well be the next masterstroke that Paul Heckingbottom makes at Oakwell.
