Barnsley set to cut defender’s £3m asking price, as Premier League duo step up interest

According to the Mirror’s live transfer bog (11/12, 12:27), West Bromwich Albion and Swansea City are in the hunt to sign Andy Yiadom from Barnsley in January, with the Swans reportedly opening negotiations.
Yiadom has looked set to leave Oakwell for some time now, and after a move to Huddersfield Town collapsed in the summer, it seemed almost inevitable that the defender would be leaving in January.
Barnsley are set to cash-in on Yiadom in January, with the South Yorkshire club accepting that they will have to cut the £3m asking price they put on the defender during the summer.
Swansea are set to step-up their pursuit of Yiadom, with the Welsh outfit looking to edge ahead of West Brom, who are another Premier League club keen to hand Yiadom a route out of the Sky Bet Championship.
Yiadom has put the injury troubles that halted his move to Huddersfield behind him, with the 26-year-old featuring in Barnsley’s last nine Championship fixtures, including Saturday’s 3-0 defeat against Derby County.
That defeat has left Paul Heckingbottom’s Tykes 20th, four points above the relegation zone.
The Verdict
It comes as no surprise to learn that Yiadom looks set for a move away from Oakwell in January, as it was a transfer everyone expected to see happen in the summer.
Yiadom will seemingly have a choice to make, with plenty of Premier League interest in the defender.
The 26-year-old’s imminent move will serve Barnsley yet another blow.
