It has been an excellent season for Barnsley, with Daniel Stendel guiding the Tykes to promotion from League One at the first time of asking.

Barnsley's fate was sealed in the week leading up to the last game of the season, where defeats for Portsmouth and Sunderland meant Barnsley's promotion was confirmed. Since then, the Barnsley players have been in celebration mode ahead of what promises to be a difficult pre-season.

Tykes' supporters will be hoping for a trouble-free summer ahead of their second tier return, and it is likely there will be a mixture of incomings and departures over the coming weeks.

The Sun previously reported that Barnsley 'keeper Adam Davies was poised to join Stoke City, but there has been little movement on this of late.

Meanwhile, Adam Jackson has joined Hibernian following his release from the club and Ryan Hedges has departed to join Aberdeen.

However, there has also been positive news for the Oakwell outfit with both Cauley Woodrow and Jacob Brown signing new deals, while Mike-Steven Bahre has signed on a permanent deal from Hannover 96 after spending last season on loan at the club.

So, what have some of Barnsley's players been up to on their break before returning for pre-season?

We take a look...

Ryan Hedges made 21 appearances under Stendel last season, but his time at Oakwell has now come to an end after he shared this image of him signing for Aberdeen.

The winger joined the Tykes back in 2017 and has been a solid player since arriving at the club, but he now seems happy as he gets set to pursue a fresh challenge in Scotland.

Alex Mowatt and Cameron McGeehan

Cameron McGeehan and midfield partner Alex Mowatt have been pictured spending their break on holiday together.

The pair were a formidable force at the heart of the Tykes' midfield last season, and they have clearly developed a strong friendship off the pitch too.

McGeehan made his mark for Barnsley last season by making 44 appearances, after not featuring much during his first season at the club when they were in the Championship. However, he will now have a point to prove when Barnsley kick off their season in the second tier in August.

McGeehan has also been sharing other images from his holiday to Mykonos with team-mate Mowatt. This image shows that Newcastle United's Jacob Murphy has also joined them, after playing on loan for West Brom last season.
