Sky Bet Championship side Barnsley have rejected a bid of around £1 million from Italian side Brescia for defender Liam Lindsay, according to reports from the Scottish Sun.

The 23-year-old is currently one of the most in-demand players in the EFL, after enjoying a hugely impressive campaign with Daniel Stendel's Barnsley last term.

The towering central defender was a regular for the automatic promotion-winning Tykes last season, and helped the Yorkshire club concede the fewest amount of goals in League One alongside Ethan Pinnock.

The Scottish Sun reported that Italian Serie B side Brescia had submitted a bid of just over £1million for the Scotsman, but that has now been rejected according to a new report.

The Tykes, perhaps unsurprisingly, value Lindsay at a much higher price than £1million, with West Bromwich Albion, Derby County, Stoke City and Middlesbrough all believed to be interested in the defender.

With only one year left on his current deal at Oakwell, it remains to be seen whether Barnsley sell the 23-year-old this summer, rather than running the risk of letting him leave potentially on a free transfer next year.

The Verdict

It is probably no surprise to see Barnsley reject a bid of around £1million for Lindsay, as in today's market, he's worth much, much more than that.

He was easily one of the best defenders in League One last term, and Barnsley will be lucky to keep hold of him this summer.

Letting him leave on a free transfer next year, though, could prove to be a terrible piece of business by the Tykes, so they will have to be clever this summer.
